Red motor oil??

Newest 5 quart jug of Traveller brand 5w-20 oil is red. Looks exactly like the Army’s hydraulic fluid for howitzers, and nothing like the motor oil I’ve been buying for decades. Anybody know— is this some new formulation, and I am just behind the times, or is this a mistake in labeling?? I couldn’t ...

Re: When you get done

Jim, thanks. I’m afraid I am done with traveling anymore, but you do make it sound nice. After years of work-related travels, I am very much a home body now.

Re: Stick welding— OJT begins

Thanks. I added the videos to my bookmarks, they look to be great down-time viewing. Never heard of a needle gun, looks and sounds interesting, but will have to defer buying one for awhile. I have a book—was a gift several years ago— the Lincoln Foundation book of Arc Welding Procedures. For my 1/2”...

Re: Stick welding— OJT begins

Thanks. I picked up the 7018 rods this morning. Now I just need to set aside some time to run some beads with them. So far I've used 6011 and 6013...my welds look better with the 6013, but I get the feeling they're not as deep in thicker metal as the 6011. I knocked apart a couple of joints to see h...

Re: Stick welding— OJT begins

Guys: thanks for the great suggestions, there’s some here that I did know, and some I suspected, but each of you also added something to my knowledge that will prove helpful…and I thank you for preparing me for it. These couple of welding threads are perfect examples of what y’all bring to the site—...

Re: And for my next stoopid money-losing project...

Seems like selling to the neighbor makes the most sense, although you do run the risk of feeling obligated to help him work on it afterwards. You’re right about the problem with parting it out—that’d be too much dealing with time sinks for me! And scrapping it seems like a complete waste. Good luck ...

Re: Stick welding— OJT begins

Thanks, Paul. I was planning on 6011, but will spring for the 7018 for this job. Holding it together at the right angle is one of my worries. The Ferguson ends are slightly bent inward, so I can’t just lay it out flat since I want to duplicate the original. Starting to think about buying a cheap wel...

Stick welding— OJT begins

Practiced a couple dozen or so beads on some old steel plate, changing stick sizes and two different types, as well as amps. Tried Red Dave’s brick method, and it does help with starting an arc. My first project is one I would normally knock out with my wire feed, because it was thin—something like ...

Me, too! My old ones didn’t, and I had troubles on the phone. My current ones do, and now I can hear better on the phone than I can in “real life.”

Re: Hey Bkeeper

I am interested in how the paint works longer term. One of the things I like about the shade cloth is that it is easily adjustable for the season and what I am growing that week. But it is a PITA putting it on at the start of the sunny season, and off in Fall. So the right amount of paint speckles m...
