Re: Stick welder
Well, it is up and running and I've run a half dozen beads or so with it. When I ran several sticks back-to-back at 150 amps the generator breaker popped, so I guess I exceed the duty cycle. Ooops. But, it works at several different output levels and if I don't get greedy and run it too long I...

Driving nowadays…
I drive 400 miles a week on I-70 now, between Fredneck and Baltimore, and have been thinking that some folks’ driving has been more dangerous since the COVID lockdowns and year of little traffic around here ended. I see more crazy driving now. This morning I read an article in the paper seemingly co...

Re: And for my next stoopid money-losing project...
I can’t see how this can be a money loser…a time sink, certainly (although I am always blind to my own!!), but it seems a good-bet project to me. I wish I could find a good stick shift truck again…my current F150 is the first automatic I have owned (ok, except for the RV), and I miss the fine contro...

Re: Growing tomatos from seed
I never thought about paint splatters, will have to think about it. I wonder if it will work in my climate because once it’s there, you can’t change it. I use some green gauzey shade cloth I had left over from beekeeping. I stretch it over the long southern exposure and roof about April and take it ...

Re: Growing tomatos from seed
I’m not clear on what stage they’re in now (still in paper towel, or in potting mix in pots?). Anyway, I take my sprouts from the paper towel and carefully transplant each to its own pot— one plant, one pot. I keep mine under grow lights in the basement until the greenhouse stays above about 40 degr...

Re: Stick welder
Update on the Marquette welder: While changing the plug on the power cord, I have discovered that someone in the past mis-wired the cord. Almost made a serious error with the new plug for the generator as a result. So now I am at it with my multimeter and a copy of the 1936 operators manual to make ...
Re: Hi!
Glad you came to say hi! Sounds like things are good now, which is great to hear. Thanks for checking in with your old friends, Patria.

Hilarious! Thanks for the morning laughter…Mrs Bkeepr thought so, too. I have similar problem with voice command of my phone in the 2010 F-150.

Re: Stick welder
Sounds good! I hope you've got a BIG generator. Welders draw a lot of power, especially when striking the arc. We’ll see— it surges to 9400 Watts, and sustains 7500. The 240 circuit is only 30 amps, though, so I am a little concerned. The guy I bought it from ran it on a 60 amp circuit. Fingers cro...

Re: Stick welder
I just picked up the old Marquette, circa late 1930s, and got it under cover. I am amazed at how much it weighs! Gotta be 150-200 lbs. Also just found the operator manual for it online….copyright 1939. I am tickled, but need to replace the power plug before I can use it on my generator.
