Board Security

Post by PHPaul » Thu Jul 18, 2019 5:00 pm

Gerrit had all his boards set up as secure (HTTPS vs. HTTP) which makes a lot of sense in this day and age.

The "secure certificate" is another $70/year which would be split with the other board on this server.

Yes... Some of the modern browsers, add-ons, and anti-virus programs will not allow a connection to a non- HTTPS: board without a big hassle to make that site an exception.

UPDATE

Ok, security certificate purchased.

Initially it was set up as a "self-signed" certificate which triggers browser warnings as they are easily spoofed.

After some rummaging around, I installed a private key version on the other board I'm hosting and it's working.

Tried to install it on this board and it says "already installed" so I'm thinking I'll need to purchase a separate one for each board, but I'm not sure about that.

I'm not about to wait on hold half the day for tech support today, and chat (which actually works pretty good) is only available Mon-Fri.

So for right now it's on hold, but I'll get 'er done as soon as I can.

Poop. As I thought, I either need to buy a separate certificate for each board @ $80 or buy a multiple version that covers 5 sites for $140

Since I already bought one it doesn't make sense to me to pay for the multiple to cover one more site. Pending member's approval, I'll buy the single to cover this site for a year, and when it expires I'll buy the multiple and split the cost between the two sites and save us a couple bucks.

All in favor say "What?"
