This beauty is for sale at a local shop. He specializes in 50's and earlier iron.

It's been updated with a 4.3 V6 and a 5 speed out of (I assume) a Chevy S10 :( , but the rest of it is GORGEOUS.

Asking $14.5K, Mawteen hasn't outright refused to approve it so maybe...

So maybe what?

It's too pretty to use it as a working truck, so I'm guessing you're gonna park it out front and make your neighbors jealous.

 :o ;)

I have (grudging) permission to get it, but I'm rethinking the whole thing. It would put a serious strain on our resources and if anything major went wrong in the next couple of years, it could really bite me on the ass.

OTOH, I ain't getting any younger and if I wait for the "perfect" opportunity, it'll never happen.

On the other other hand, you're right, it'll be just a toy and never haul anything heavier than a few sacks of chicken feed. I have plenty of vehicles that can do that.

I hate making these kinds of decisions.

Well, SWMBO decided for me. After (not) sleeping on it, she came up with a litany of "what ifs" and I'm just not willing to deal with the heartburn.

This adulting shit sucks.

Yes, it does. Most of the time.

(Although my 96 year old Mom has started saying “I don’t give a damn” a lot nowadays, so maybe it’s true that wisdom comes with age.) 😉

So, on to Plan B: I put the larger of my two motorcycles up for sale. I put a high-ish price on it, if it sells it will cover most of the cost of the truck.

Not gonna dicker, if it doesn't sell at my asking price I'll be just as happy to keep it.

Taxes? What's dem? :D

My only income is SS and Navy Pension, much of which is not taxable. I pay a little at the federal level and haven't made enough to pay state in 4-5 years.

Well, poop.

Long story short, Mawteen made it pretty clear that if I bought that truck, no matter WHERE the financing came from, my life would not be worth living for many months (or years...) to come. So, I scrapped the idea.

Then today, I found out that the $14.5K price on the sign in the windshield was a "mistake". Owner actually wants $40K for it.

Had I sold one of my bikes (which was Plan B) and gone up there with $10K in my pocket to start haggling then got THAT price thrown at me, I'd have blown a vessel...
