Little incident the other day with a homeless dude

So I had to do some silage appraisals the other day North of Lebanon, Mo. Came lunch time and I was close to their city park, and I had brought my lunch, so I pulled up to the nearly empty park, and carried my cooler up to one of several empty picnic tables. Nice shelter house under two or three big trees. For some reason, as an afterthought, I decided to grab my handgun and laid it on the picnic table amongst my lunch stuff. I was happily munching my samwhich, then out of nowhere and barely out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone coming in behind me in my blind spot.
Without much thought, I instinctively reached for the gun. When I turned and the homeless dude saw the gun in my hand he about shit his drawers. I never pointed it at him, but rather held it up pointed at the ceiling of the shelter house. So he starts jabbering and backing away. Claims he was looking for an electrical outlet to plug his phone in. I told him I wasn't going to hurt him, but that he surprised me, and he probably shouldn't come in behind folks that way. I told him I was cautious because crime was getting so bad, especially in bigger areas like nearby Springfield. That is when he acted surprised that crime was bad in Springfield, and he told me he was moving to a homeless shelter in Springfield soon. He quickly left, didn't try to mooch anything.
I just wonder what He had in his backpack, and what would have happened had I not been armed.
Me and good ole Smith & Wesson.
