Apple Computer

Post by Jim @ Jawa »

Don't buy one!!!!
Years ago they used to be user-friendly and a plug and play machines. Now days Apple computers seemed to be a piece of shit. The Mail program is not functioning to the point where I cannot receive or send emails. Some of my word document files that are less than two years old will not open, which means file like my autobiography cannot be open or change, or even printed. They changed the operating system every month or so which means every time they do that I have to learn a new operating system.
So if you're thinking of switching from a Microsoft machine to an Apple machine, I would advise you not to do it. Apple no longer gives a shit about their customers.
I have been an Apple Computer person ever since the early 80s and the last two years I've discovered that Apple no longer gives a shit whether or not I'm a customer let alone a customer of 45 years.
:(
You guys stay safe and as happy as this life will allow.

So? Dieselrider, I know not much of computers. with that Linux system, do you have to have a computer custom built? Or is that something you do yourself? I thought about having one built from scratch. I dont want all the damned games, Alexa, music apps, on my machine. I want to be able to type a letter, scan it, e mail it. I want a browser that is not full of adds, and MSNBC crap. I want to be able to shop Amazon, Google information, and get on the Antique tractor site, and that's about all. Leave all the foofoo shit off of my machine. But it you walk into a Best Buy or Staples, they come as a package with all the worthless crap on them.

Gene, you can put Linux on any laptop or desktop and configure it the way you want it. Now, depending on what you choose as a browser and such can still have ads and such. On linux, you can run ad blockers and that helps. I am not a techy type person. I use Brave browser to search the web, I use libre office to keep my books for my wood turning and Thunderbird for my email. All pretty simple stuff.
The Brave browser has an ad blocker that stops most ads on You tube and other sites and that is a real nice feature.
Most everything on linux versions, of which there are many, is "open Source" which is free unless you want to donate to them (your choice).
If there is a downside, it would be that many things like windows programs do not always work well with linux. However, Linux does play well with documents and such created in windows. For example, If I create a word type document in linux, and send it to someone using windows, they may not be able to open it as windows will not play well with linux. However, if I convert it to a PDF file and then send it they can see it just fine. If they send me something created in Word which is a Windows program, I can open it with no problem.
I hope this helps.
